After 1 p.m. Inspector Smith entered the Charge Room and said there were some prisoners from the Magistracy and he want d them detained in the Police Cells during the adjourne ment of the Court. I replied alright. Inspector Smith took the cell k-y☐ where they were hanging near my desk and looked the prisoners up and returned the keys. No person came to me for authority to take the prisoners out of the cells. I was not

ware that the prisoners had been taken out of the cells until I heard one had escaped. The European conɛtable on duty in the charge room is in charge of prisoners in the cells. The key# are kept hanging in charge room near the Inspector's desk where they can be suen. It is the duty of the European constable when taking prisonere out of cells or removing the keys to stute for what purpose they are required, or, if any person
